U11G Spitfire Win Nor Cal Championship
Showing dramatic improvement from where they began the year, Sac
United's U-11G Spitfire capped off the Nor Cal Cup Silver Division
with a championship trophy following a thrilling penalty kick
shootout victory over the Santa Rosa United Freeze in Manteca on
Sunday. The title game ended 0-0 after regulation time and two 5
minute overtimes. PKs were converted by Chessie Lauria, Claire
Perez, Jackie Nolan and Natalie Maas, but the MVP was keeper Maeve
Castleberry who made several great stops to preserve the tie on the
field and secure the win during the shootout. Getting to the title
match was no easy feat on Saturday, as the girls fell behind 2-0 to
the East Diablo Heat. Not giving up, the Spitfire showed tremendous
grit and fought back to tie the game on two goals by Chessie Lauria.
Natalie Maas scored off a pass from Kaitlin Williams following a
corner kick for the game winner late in the 2nd half and Chessie
Lauria completed a hat trick just before the final whistle for the
4-2 final result.
Congratulations Spitfire! Thanks to all the parents for braving the
fog and chill and to Coaches Karen and Becki for inspiring such
quality play.
