U17 Pumas Win 20th Annual North vs South Tournament in San Luis Obispo

August 2-3 - In an event where overall accumulation of points wins all, Pumas went undefeated over 4 games with 9 goals for and 3 against. Pumas defeated Heritage (5-0); South Valley (2-1); and came up with critical goals from behind to secure a 1-1 tie with Santa Clara, scoring a critical goal in a very exciting final minute of play. Playing the final game needing a tie or better, Pumas played down a goal for the majority of the match only to score the tieing goal in the last minutes to take the championship through total point accumulation. Goals through the weekend came from Courtney Greenawalt (3); Alex Schrick (2); Nicole Athey (1); Alexis Mendoza (1); Brooke Haugen (1); and Ashley Bradford (1). Goal keepers Simone Wade and Katie Peterson came up consistently big to keep the team in each game. Several highlights of the trip included a Friday team swim at Avala Beach to help recondition the player`s tired muscles as they just returned Wednesday from Virginia Beach and 4 days of the US Club Soccer National Cup event; and a Saturday night family get together where families enjoyed dinner and toasted some s'mores over a large beach bonfire.
