U13-U19 (2014-2008) Tryout Information

Tryout Registration

New and retuning players need to register for tryouts using the registration link below for the 2026-2027 season.

2026/2027 Tryout Registration

Location

All tryouts will take place at the Granite Regional Park. Please plan to arrive at least 20-30 minutes prior to the start of the tryout to allow time to park and register your player.

Schedule & Assigned Fields

U13-U14 Tryouts
(May 11th – May 14th)

U13-U14:
6:45 PM – 8:00 PM

U15-U19 Tryouts
(May 18th – May 21st)

U15-U19:
5:30 PM – 8:15 PM

The assigned fields will be emailed to all registered tryout participants and posted here 24-48 hours in advance. Please ensure to check your email, follow us on Instagram for any tryout announcements.

Check-In Process

  • All players must check in daily at the tent closest to their assigned field before reporting to their coach.
    During check-in:
  • Players will be issued a pinnie (training vest) with an assigned number.
  • A photo will be taken of each player wearing their pinnie. This photo is uploaded to our internal system (BYGA) and helps coaches match faces to names during the tryout evaluation process.
    • Families may opt out of the photo if they prefer. If you choose to opt out, please notify a staff member at the check-in tent. Your decision will be respected, though please note the photo aids coaches in making fair and accurate assessments during tryouts.
  • Please ensure your player arrives on time and checks in each day to help us stay organized and maintain accurate attendance.
  • If you have any questions or concerns about the check-in process or photo use, please see a staff member at the check-in tent.

How Tryouts Work

Sacramento United conducts a unified tryout process to ensure every player is evaluated fairly across the appropriate development pathways.

For the 2026/27 season:

  • Girls U8–U19 and Boys U8–U12 will be organized by grade level and age group
  • Boys U13–U19 will follow the MLS NEXT birth year model

Players are evaluated by club coaches and directors throughout tryouts and the summer development period (May-Aug). This allows us to ensure every player is placed in the most appropriate environment for their long-term growth.

Tryout Format – 2026/27 Season

Additional Information*

  • Players that register, BYGA will automatically place players based on their current grade and birth year for coaches
  • Final team placement is determined through the tryout evaluation process
  • Some players may be evaluated across multiple groups to ensure proper placement
  • Players who may benefit from moving up or down an age group will be evaluated accordingly. Final placement decisions will be made on a case-by-case basis by Coaches and Directors, in the best interest of the player
  • Following tryouts, coaches may continue to evaluate players throughout the summer development period (May-Aug). Based on a holistic review of the player’s development, performance, and team fit, adjustments may be made to allow a player to move up or down an age group (if applicable). Final team assignments may be updated if it is determined to be in the best interest of the player

Important MLS Next Tryouts & Eligibility
(U13–U19 Boys Only)

  • U13–U19 boys teams are primarily formed using birth year alignment
  • Player evaluation is not strictly limited to birth year. Players may be evaluated across adjacent age groups when appropriate for development

U13B Example Clarification (IMPORTANT)

Players born in 2014 are evaluated for the U13 MLS NEXT Homegrown group
Players born in 2013 (August 1 – December 31):

  • May be evaluated for the MLS NEXT Academy or NorCal Program Pathway (U13 level) if they fall within eligibility guidelines
  • Players with birthdays between August 1 – December 31 may be considered for evaluation in the younger U13 group (New Age Format)
  • However, they are not eligible for placement in the 2014 Homegrown roster group

Tryout Attendance

We strongly encourage players to attend as many tryout dates as possible to maximize the opportunity for their child to showcase their skills. It is recommended that players attend all tryouts

Tryout Attire and Gear

Players are required to wear appropriate soccer attire, including soccer cleats and shin guards. Please no club gear gear. Additionally, each player should bring a water bottle labeled with their name and a soccer ball marked with both their name and phone number.

Parking

May be limited at some locations so plan accordingly. Please be thoughtful when driving and parking at Granite Regional Park. Only park in designated parking spots, and keep an eye out for kids and families – do not block the flow of traffic to drop off or pick up players.

City Lot:

Parking for tryouts will be available in the city lot across the street from the turf field.

Gravel Lot:

This parking lot will be open

Turf Lot:

This parking lot will be closed except for coaches and those needing access to handicapped parking spaces.  There will be no pick-up or drop off in this lot.

Player Evaluations

Players will be assessed based on their technical, tactical, athletic, and psychological attributes, which are demonstrated through their attitude, approach, and performance during tryouts. Our experienced staff will evaluate these qualities using various methods, primarily by observing performance, behavior, and habits throughout the tryout sessions.

Offer Selection Process

At Sac United, players in age groups U13-U19 undergo thorough evaluation by our experienced coaches and directors during tryouts. Successful candidates may receive verbal offers from coaches, followed by email confirmation containing registration details for placement in one of our premier teams. We field two to three teams per our U13-U19 age group.
